Lessons from Honolulu 1 In Honolulu, its white sandy beaches, both the natural and man-made ones, and the various sea sports, other outdoor and indoor activities as well as the entire tropical island paradise have been attracting millions of the tourists and visitors. Despite Hawaii's distance from the Pacific Rim, there are far more foreign tourists and visitors that spend their vacations in Oahu island alone, than the combined tourists and visitors that travel to Metro Manila, Cebu City, Davao City and other cities by the sea in the Philippines. Perhaps thousands of the professionals in the tourism industries, the officials and employees of the government in the Philippines do not know that the #1 paid attractions or tourism-income earners in the entire State of Hawaii are not the multi-billion dollar infrastructures in Hawaii. The Polynesian Cultural Center in Oahu is the #1 money earner! The hula-hula dances, fire dances and other cultural activities are the top paid attractions in Hawaii! In this web page, we would like to share with you the beautiful landscapes, magnificent and scenic hotels, suites, resorts, health and spa centers, other real estate properties on the beachfront and few blocks behind the shores. We also include some colorful photos of the beach scenes from Ala Moana to Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii. We hope that as you see and observe these pictures, you would take the time to think how the government authorities and other leaders, living and working in the coastal cities and towns with the best beachfront properties and ecological attractions in the Philippines as well as those in other developing tropical countries, should emulate the excellent examples in Hawaii. However, the hula-hula dances, fire dances and other cultural activities at the Polynesian Cultural Center are the #1 paid attractions in the entire 50th state in the U.S.A.
When I first strolled through these 2 beachfront hotels in 1995, there were more sand, beach goers who sat, sunbathed and played on the sand. These photos of the vanishing sands and beach were taken in August 2009!
Surfing is one of the tourists' attractions in Honolulu, but the ultimate tsunami
At the eleventh hour after the 8.8 earthquake in Chile on February 27, 2010, hundreds of the tourists and visitors at these same beach resorts had to evacuate to the higher floors of their hotels; others rented vehicles and some boarded the free transportation to take them up in the high roads and hills of Honolulu due to the tsunami warnings!
Hawaii is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean. In Southern Leyte, one ivory-colored beach which is twice longer and much wider than the Waikiki Beach in Hawaii faces the 2 scenic small islands and also the Pacific Ocean. One other beach in the southwestern side of Southern Leyte which faces the Mindanao Sea has white sand mixed with peebles, and it is as long as the Waikiki Beach. We would like to invite the hotel, resort, conference center, vacation club and the retirement community developers in Cebu, Metro Manila and the international real estate property investors to visit our historical, ecological and truly green province. We would gladly take you to the ideal sites which are as very good to excellent locations to develop your future international hotels, resorts, condotels and retirement communities. We do not have the type of sea waves which you could surf over, but you can scuba dive to see hundreds of varieties of fish and swim with the famous whale sharks in Southern Leyte. Our super fine neighbor to the southeast, Surigao del Norte, is the #1 surfing destination in the Philippines! We highly recommend you to tour and/or visit some of their hundreds of romantic and secluded islands! One top advantage of Southern Leyte in East Central Philippines is that the inter-island tourists and visitors, the students in school buses and the regular passengers in public transportation from Luzon and Mindanao, the largest and second largest islands respectively in the Philippines, can easily access Southern Leyte. In addition, the tourists, visitors and regular passengers of the ferries and/or fast crafts from Cebu and Bohol provinces can travel few times daily to Region 8. The island atmosphere, the super green valleys, hills and mountains, coral reefs, mangroves, millions of coconuts and other trees along the sea coasts, its fresh air and the tropical environment can attract currently many tourists and visitors that millions of them are also attracted to similar ecological attractions in Honolulu, Hawaii! In the meantime, while the famous real estate developers in the Philippines are maximizing their investments and hoping some profits by concentrating their energies, resources and time in the big cities, we have some contacts of small groups who are general constructors with 40 years experience. We can provide and guide the international investors, tourists and visitors to the existing ecological and historical attractions in Region 8. If you search the Internet, there are many travel guides which the non-residents wrote about and took pictures of Southern Leyte as well as Leyte, Biliran and the 3 Samar provinces. Thus in this website, we who are natives of both Leyte and Southern Leyte would like to share with you the extra information and pictures which are not covered and included in the familiar travel guides. We can provide you with the reliable persons to contact with and right information to see, for example, our famous scuba diving, the whale sharks, coral reefs and mangroves, the gray, ivory and white sandy beaches, caves, rainforests, waterfalls and other famous attractions. When you tour, visit or take a vacation to experience and enjoy our famous ecological and historical attractions, you can reach our truly green province by boarding a flight to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Metro Manila. Then from the Manila Domestic Airport, take a connecting flight to Tacloban City, the capital of northern Leyte. We highly recommend that you spend a week or more days touring the historical, ecological and other attractions in Leyte, Biliran and Samar provinces. Do not fail to visit the Gen. MacArthur Landing Memorial, Santo Niño Museum, San Juanico Bridge (longest bridge in the country), Visayas State University in Leyte province, and the various attractions in Biliran and Samar provinces. For more travel guides and other information on Region 8's northern provinces, please click on the Leyte links below. When you are done touring Leyte, Biliran and Samar provinces, you can then continue with your travel and tour down to Southern Leyte. From Tacloban City's taxi van and bus stations, you can take one of the passenger vehicles from early in the morning up to late in the evening bound for Maasin City, the capital of Southern Leyte. The van or bus ride along the straight and zigzag concrete highway takes about 3.5 to 4.5 hours from Tacloban City down to Maasin City. An alternative way to visit us is to take a flight to Cebu-Mactan International Airport. If you have the budget for faster travel, you can charter a small aircraft from Mactan to Maasin City Airport. Most travelers from Cebu City take the ship which sails about 4 to 5 times per week direct to Maasin City and daily to Southern Leyte via Bato, Hilongos, Baybay and Ormoc City which are located in northwestern side of Leyte island. From these towns and a city, you can ride any one of the buses, jeepneys, or taxis (vans) which travels several times daily down to Maasin City. If you are coming through Bohol, you can take the daily pump boat and ship rides from Ubay to Maasin and Ubay to Bato, Leyte. When you wish to have a personal car, professional or super fine tourist guide to meet you at the Tacloban City, Ormoc City, Maasin City airports or at the piers as mentioned above, you may contact Mr. Bambom T. Gonzales in Maasin City through his phone #(011+63+920) 216-4537. Upon arrival in Maasin City and if you are seeking for a fine place to stay, we suggest that you check-in either at the Ampil Pensione, Southern Comforts and Villa Romana Hotel all 3 of them are located in barrio Abgao. The Jaimee's Hotel and Resort is in Ibarra and farther south, the Manaya Beach Resort and Kuting Reef Resort are located in Macrohon. You may also find other hotels, inns, lodges and restaurants which are listed in the local telephone directory. The air-conditioned, nice and cozy lodging places are located in Maasin and Macrohon, Southern Leyte about 5 to 45 minutes by motorcab, jeepney, van or bus from the Maasin City pier and bus stations. Furthermore, when you are going to tour, visit or take a vacation in Southern Leyte, we highly recommend that you venture out to the new concrete roads and bridges from Liloan to San Ricardo, Panaon island, to see the latest ferry terminal which can take the passengers and vehicles about one hour to ride in the ship bound for Surigao in northern Mindanao. In your itinerary, we suggest that you include driving or riding through the new concrete roads and bridges from Silago, Southern Leyte to Abuyog, Leyte or vice versa. Most importantly, we suggest that you visit the Tahusan Beach in Hinunangan, Southern Leyte which faces east to the Pacific Ocean. Tahusan Beach is about as long, if not longer, and as wide as the world famous Papuhaku Beach in Molokai, Hawaii. But, Tahusan Beach has additional attractions: the beautiful, fantastic and photogenic San Pablo and San Pedro islands across the blue channel. Moreover, we recommend that you explore the historical, ecological, scenic and the scuba diving attractions in Sogod Bay and Limasawa island! "Sogod Bay now has 11 marine sancturaries within the Bay. Limasawa is the latest marine sanctuary in the bay; it's one of the largest marine sanctuaries in the Philippines and includes two of our divesites Adrian's Cove and Zack's wall. The Southern Leyte Government is pushing for more marine sanctuaries within Southern Leyte and is a big supporter of the marine environment and eco tourism. There are a few new discoveries in Sogod bay. In our marine sanctury in Santa Sofia we have seen a flamboyant cuttlefish, in the Lungsodaan marine sanctuary we have seen 3 different coloured pygmy seahores and on Napantau marine sanctury we've found a warty frog fish. The whale shark season has started; we have been on 10 whale shark trips this year. Plenty of plankton in the water hopefully this will be a good season," according to the website of Sogod Bay Scuba Resort. Regarding our intentional community, we are still a proposed project. We have been praying and hoping that some generous churches, foundations, organizations and individuals from all over the world would join and partner with us to build the self-sustainable 7th Millennium Community. However, our business associates the Karyan Services can provide language translation and diversified services to the Russian and Armenian tourists, travelers and/or investors who are planning to visit our Region 8. Also, as consultants we can work with you when you plan to have a successful tour, vacation, investment and/or retirement in Southern Leyte. We are associated with and can refer you to a successful general construction firm with 40 years experience, and a real estate developer who operates vacation homes for rent and for sale in Southern Leyte. Finally, please check with the offices of Congressman Roger G. Mercado, Governor Damian G. Mercado, Mayor Maloney Samaco in Maasin City, Southern Leyte, and their counterparts in Samar, Biliran and Leyte provinces, for the official information on touring, visiting, investing and/or retiring in Southern Leyte.
