Visit Southern Leyte

Welcome to Maasin City, Southern Leyte and the nearby provinces and islands of Region 8, which is in East Central Philippines! You are in the ideal tropical island to visit or take a vacation.  Tourist arrivals in Southern Leyte grow by 461% recently!

If or when you take a vacation to enjoy our famous historical and ecological attractions including the notable coral reefs and mangroves, and to invest in our coastal, hilly and mountainous city as well as the rest of Southern Leyte, you can reach us when you take a flight from the Manila Domestic Airport to Tacloban City, the capital of northern Leyte. From Tacloban airport, you can ride one of the passenger vehicles to take you to the taxi van or bus stations in Tacloban City. The vans and buses will depart from early morning up to evening bound for Maasin City, the capital of Southern Leyte. The van or bus ride along the straight and zigzag concrete highway from Tacloban City to Maasin City takes about 3 to 4 hours.

Another alternative way to visit us is to take a flight to Cebu-Mactan International Airport. From Cebu City, you can board either one of the ships which sails few times per week direct to Maasin City and daily to Southern Leyte via Bato, Hilongos, Baybay, and Ormoc City which are located in northwestern side of Leyte Island. From these towns and a city, you can ride any of the buses, jeepneys, or taxis (vans) which travels several times daily down to Maasin City.

When you are in Maasin City, we suggest that you check-in at the Villa Romana Hotel, Ampil Pensione, Maasin Country Lodge, and other hotels, inns, and lodging houses which are listed in the telephone directory, and in the business and commercial reports filed at the Maasin City Hall and the Provincial Capitol of Southern Leyte. The air-conditioned and fine small hotels are located in barrio Abgao and Mambajao, just about 5 to 15 minutes by motorcab from the Maasin City pier and the bus stations.

Furthermore, when you are going to tour, visit or take a vacation in Southern Leyte, we highly recommend that you venture out to the brand-new concrete road and bridges from Liloan to San Ricardo in Panaon Island. In your itinerary, please include also driving or riding through the new concrete road and bridges from Silago, Southern Leyte to Abuyog, Leyte. Most importantly, visit the historical, ecological, scenic and the scuba diving attractions in Sogod Bay and Limasawa Island!

Regarding our community, we are still a proposed project. We have been praying and hoping that some kind-hearted individuals and organizations from all over the world would provide us the funds to build the self-sufficient 7th Millennium Community

Please check with the offices of Congressman Roger G. MercadoGovernor Damian G.
